In what is certainly a surprising move, inmates serving time throughout Texas prisons have pooled together their resources to send a relief fund to help those whose lives have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

According to Texas officials, the American Red Cross has received a donation of US $53,000 from commissary funds to be used for mobilsing relief to regions affected by Harvey.

A total of 6,600 inmates collected the funds and donated it between August 31 and September 30, which puts the daily donation per inmate to around US $0.25.

Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas on August 25, and was categorised as a Category 4, causing signifcant damage and loss of life.
