Mingora, the administrative and commercial centre of the valley, was occupied by the Taliban earlier this month and the military had vowed three days ago to retake the town soon.
“The army is in full control of Mingora,” chief military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas told a news conference.
The spokesman said that the militants had resisted when the forces launched operation to secure the city but withdrew after being surrounded from all directions by the army.
The General did not say anything about casualties of the militants and troops while re-taking the city. Abbas said a team of 20 doctors with sufficient medicines has reached Mingora for re-establishing the civil hospital there.
Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said troops have also killed 25 militants, including two key commanders.
