Truck ploughs into group of children, kills 2 in Kerala

Two children were killed and 10 injured after a goods-laden truck ploughed into a group of school students in Nilambur in Malappuram district, on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Muhammed Shamil and Fida, were class 3 and class 9 students of the Christ King High Shool in Manimooly.

The incident happened around 9.30 am when the truck which was carrying copra from Karnataka swirled off the road and rammed a motorbike, a truck, an auto-rickshaw and later a bus shelter, near Vazhikkadavu. The auto-rickshaw was also transporting children to school. Shamil and Fida died on the spot.

Truck driver, Mustafa (64), is reported to have suffered internal injuries and has been hospitalised. Preliminary reports said he had experienced physical discomfort and lost control of the vehicle.
