Keeping the issue of power tariff hike alive, India Against Corruption leader Arvind Kejriwal on Friday asked city residents to switch off lights between 7 pm and 8 pm on Saturday as a mark of protest.

He asked Delhiites to express solidarity in the fight against the “high-handedness of private companies and the Delhi government.”

“The city government came under pressure and reduced power tariff as the IAC’s agitation got widespread support from people,” said Kejriwal.

“But the reduction was miniscule, and it is not enough for the common man who is already reeling under high inflation. We will continue our movement until the city government completely withdraws the increased power tariff,” he said.

He said discoms and the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission have colluded with the city government to hike power tariff unreasonably. He also blamed BJP for not raising the issue till the time IAC members hit the streets.

IAC leaders led by Kejriwal had held protests in the city against power tariff hike.
They asked residents not to pay electricity bills, and Kejriwal had publicly burnt power bills to oppose the decision.

IAC members had also reconnected electricity lines in some houses where power supply was disconnected by discoms due to non-payment of bills.
