Sunny Singh Kunwar, 30, a native of Mahakali Anchal in Nepal and residing at Gandhi Nagar in east Delhi, and Madan Tomar, 27, were arrested at the Govindpuri Metro station on Thursday, said Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhry.
“We received information that a man with fake currency would be coming to Govindpuri Metro Station on Thursday afternoon. If a deal is struck, he would agree to give the fake currency at very cheap rate,” said Chaudhry.
Accordingly, two policemen, acting as decoy customers, met Kunwar and struck a deal. Kunwar took Rs 1,500 from the decoy cops and gave them Rs 10,000 fake currency notes. “We immediately swooped in and arrested Kunwar,” said Chaudhry.
During interrogation, Kunwar told the police he and his accomplice Madan Tomar, printed fake notes in their rented house at Gandhi Nagar.
“We raided the house and arrested Tomar. Fake currency notes worth Rs 3.5 lakh were also recovered,” said Chaudhry.
The racketeers told the police that they got paper and some fake notes from the neighbouring states and Nepal.
“They knowingly kept the denomination of notes of Rs 100 and Rs 50 as nobody doubts these notes. Only people view Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 notes with suspicion,” added Chaudhry.
