The Delhi University registrar has sent notices to colleges, asking them to implement the no work, no pay policy against non-teaching staff members who are on protest over a change in their pay grades.
The official has asked the head of colleges and faculties to send in the names of protesting staff members.
The DU karamcharis are demanding revocation of a decision dissolving the grades they were given in 1992. Instead, they will be paid according to a 2006 salary revision.
A letter to the president of Delhi University and Colleges’ Karamchari Union (DUCKU) dated August 11 said, “Most of the demands/grievances of DUCKU had been resolved and therefore, once again appeal to the union to desist from taking any action which would be
prejudicial to the smooth functioning of the University or do anything unbecoming of an employee, failing which the University would consider to take necessary steps in accordance with the University rules.”
“Such notifications are to intimidate us. They now want to change our pay grade of 1992 according to the pay revision of 2006. Why are they changing grades according to
the 2006 pay revision in 2012? Nobody is willing to give us
an answer to that,” DUCKU president Raj Pal DUCKU said.
They said several union office bearers from North Campus have been given notices, transferring them to South campus colleges and departments.
The union is protesting since August 7 and says it will continue with the agitation.
A majority of colleges have said that they will abide by the registrar’s directions.
