Yamuna set to cross the danger mark anytime

With release of more than 1 lakh cusec water from Hathnikund barrage in Haryana into Yamuna on Tuesday and constant rains through out the day, civic authorities are gearing up to deal with a flood like situation in the national capital.

Sandeep Gulati,  Gandhi Nagar sub-divisional magistrate said, “The water released from Haryana into Yamuna will reach Delhi on Wednesday and the authorities are evacuating people from the Yamuna banks.”

“Presently Yamuna is flowing at 204.56 metres, which is close to the danger mark of 204.83. However, four times during the day on Tuesday, over one lakh  cusec water was released from Hathnikund and when this water reaches Delhi it may cause some problem in the low lying areas,”said Gulati. “However, there is nothing to panic and authorities are ready to tackle any situation,” he said. Tents have been put up for the stay of people in case there are floods. Close to 15 boats have also been put on standby.

The official added that people are also being cautioned about the rising level of
Yamuna.  Hathnikund barrage released around 68,000 cusec water till 12 pm on Tuesday followed by another 40, 000 cusec by 8 pm.
