“Head quarters of Air India Charters Ltd (AICL) will be shifted to Kerala in pursuance of a decision taken on Oct 8, 2010 in the 178th meeting of the Board of AICL,” said the airline in a statement.

According to the statement, all operational and administrative functions will henceforth be shifted to Kochi, while the engineering functions of AICL would be at Thiruvananthapuram.
AICL, which operates international low-cost operations under the brand name of Air India Express, is a subsidiary of the national carrier Air India.

The airline was established in May 2004, after a long standing demand from Malayalee expatriate communities living in the Middle East who were seeking a low-cost budget airline for the region.

Currently, the LCC primarily connects 14 international destination in Gulf, Middle East and Southeast Asian markets to 16 Indian cities with a fleet of 21 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
