The country has also imposed the duty on imports of polypropylene, used as an engineering plastic, from Oman, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. On carbon black, the duty was ranged between $ 0.078 per kg and $ 0.195 per kg, while on polypropylene the duty was ranged between $44.43 per metric tonne and $1033.65 metric tonne, the Central Board of Customs and Excise said in its notification.
The countries have been exporting the two products — carbon black and polypropylene — to India below their normal value, it said.
The two products on which duties were imposed were being dumped into India below their normal value, it added.
The anti-dumping duty on the products would be effective up to January 29, 2010.
