Dr Reddy's launches generic drug for anaemia

The product, which has been named as Cresp, is the first generic version of Darbeopoet Alfa in the world and also the first of its kind launched in the country, Dr Reddy's claimed in a statement.

"Cresp will offer patients an improved treatment regimen at affordable pricing," Dr Reddy's vice-chairman and chief executive GV Prasad said.The company, however, did not disclose the price of the new drug and officials could not be reached to ascertain it.

Cresp has been approved in the country for treating anaemia due to chronic kidney diseases and anaemia due to chemotherapy, it said, adding Cresp will soon be available in both vials and prefilled syringes.

According to the Amgen 2009 report, annual global sales of Darbeopoet Alfa were at USD 2.65 billion. In US alone, the sales of the product stood at USD 1.25 billion for 2009.
Shares of Dr Reddy's today closed at Rs 1,340.65, down 0.04 per cent
