Nodal industry body Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) said on Monday that the new amendments to the APMC Act 2014 need a relook in respect of renewal and implementation of the Act.
“The new licensing order should be kept in abeyance till such time the matter is discussed in detail with the trade associations, trade bodies and other concerned representative agencies,” Tallam R Dwarakanath, senior vice-president, FKCCI, said.
He opined that the new licensing order and allowing business under e-trade mode would lead to monopolisation of the trade by big corporates, thereby, rendering small and marginal traders out of business. “These segments constitute the majority stakeholders under the APMC Act,” Dwarakanath said.
He noted that the livelihood of marginal traders would be at stake due to the amendments, not to mention cropping up of “unnecessary administrative bureaucracy” like furnishing of documents and other information on existing businesses.
“It is the view of the Federation that the licenses earlier issued should continue till its completion period of 2018 and the new license policy needs to be relooked and opinion sought from the Federation and trade bodies,” Dwarakanath said.
FKCCI called for keeping the amended policy in abeyance and a memorandum to the effect submitted to the state government highlighting the interests of the stakeholders.
