Steps to be taken to reverse the downgrading of India's safety ranking by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and scrapping of the 5/20 rule to enable domestic operators to launch foreign operations will find prominent mention in a presentation being prepared by the Ministry of Civil Aviation for the new government.
The presentation is being prepared at the direction of Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth. Sources said the Ministry would also highlight the achievements and concerns on the turnaround plan of Air India as well as the modernisation process initiated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The Ministry will highlight the need for reviewing the 5/20 rule, which stipulates that an Indian operator has to complete five years in operations and have a fleet of 20 aircraft could only start foreign operations.
