The new Companies Bill, 2009, stipulates that every individual intending to be appointed as director of a company will have to make an application for allotment of DIN to the central government.

Interestingly the Bill proposes that every person proposed to be appointed as a director by the company in general meeting or otherwise must furnish his DIN and a declaration that he is not disqualified to become a director under the new Companies Act.

Further, the new Bill stipulates that the government will issue the DIN within one month from the receipt of the application for allotment of the DIN.
