Enhanced agriculture credit, better farm infrastructure and irrigation are expected to get more attention in the Budget 2016-17, with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assuring the farm leaders that despite constraints on the economy, the government will try its best to boost the sector.
In a pre-Budget consultation with experts of farm sector, Jaitley gave a patient hearing to suggestions made by various farm bodies.
The suggestions among other included a timely decision on Minimum Support Price, an efficient procurement policy, priority for mechanisation in all commodities, setting-up of commodity wise board, water conservation as a national priority with focus on drip and sprinkler irrigation, timely completion of irrigation projects and linking of rivers.
