The company plans to make an initial investment of Rs 10 crore by adopting green technologies for reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions by at least 15 per cent by the end of 2012, a press release issued here today stated.
"Green building technologies will reduce energy costs at Siemens by about Rs 3 crore a year. As a result, the investments by the company will be amortised in only a little over three-years. Siemens has the world's largest environmental portfolio and offers green building consultancy now also to other companies in India," the company's CEO, Armin Bruck, said.
Siemens plans to install new intelligent building systems for optimising the heating and cooling as well as water and energy distribution systems, it said. "This process is well underway at the company headquarters in Worli, Mumbai and is expected to be completed by early-2011," said.
So far, Siemens systems in buildings worldwide have already saved about Rs 1,200-billion and are reducing CO2 emissions by 2.4-million tonnes, the release said.
