Sminq, a startup that seeks to make decision-making easier for users, has announced the launch of its app in Bengaluru.

As a social media platform, Sminq is oriented differently, in that it is place-driven and not people-driven. The app allows users to click and upload real-time photographs/information about a place, which then expires after 24 hours. This ensures that the information is real-time, and the platform steers clear of fake news by disallowing photographs to be routed from the user's gallery.

Talking to DH, Sminq Co-founder and CEO Shachin Bharadwaj said, "The future of social networking is in places, not people. Sminq allows people to ascertain the situation at a venue they seek to visit beforehand, thereby allowing them to make an informed decision."

Currently, the company is focused on building its user base, but find that brands will find a use case on the app to have themselves featured. "We will eventually open up to advertising, and brand-based content generation, which will be our revenue models," he said.

"Moreover, we ensure that content is not offensive or damaging. I think the time has come, when platforms have to start taking responsibility for the content quality," he added.
