 The government on Wednesday gave its approval to National Steel Policy (NSP) that seeks to enhance domestic steel consumption and make India a globally competitive steel industry.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval to the NSP 2017 that seeks to increase per capita steel consumption to 160 kg by 2030 from the existing level of around 60 kg.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the policy also aspires to achieve 300 MT of steel-making capacity by 2030.
