Aimed at addressing mobile call drop problems and enhance quality of services, the telecom regulator Trai has decided to introduce an app to measure call quality and also strengthen the existing do not disturb (DND) app.

“Proposed app called MyCall will measure call quality after each call.  Subscribers have to download the app, and at the end of each call, app will ask him/her to rate the call between one-star and five-star,” Trai chairman R S Sharma said at an event to commemorate the completion of 20 years of the regulator.

For doing the call quality assessment, the app will have several parameter disclosures as well as settings. For example, consumers will be able to choose whether they want to rate all calls, or whether a percentage of that, and when they do rate, they will have to disclose whether it is indoors, outdoors or specify the geographic location, he said, adding that the app will be launched in two months.

Trai also plans to strengthen the DND app aimed at deterring pesky calls by telemarketers. At present, there is a framework for DND registry, that allows telecom subscribers to block unwanted promotional calls from telemarketing companies. The regulator will further strengthen the DND, he said.
