Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1. There have been several reports leading up to the day that have claimed that the Narendra Modi government is looking to give some relief to the middle class by pushing up the income tax relief bracket for those earning up to Rs 15 lakh per annum. The government will also be aware of the recent stock market slump and may announce measures that will boost Indian businesses.

Prior to the Budget, however, Sitharaman is set to present the Economic Survey on Friday, January 31.

What is the Economic Survey?

An Economic Survey, in simple terms, is a survey that is conducted to review the financial developments of the country in the last fiscal year.

It also plays a great role in analysing different trends in various sectors of the economy like agriculture, industrial production, export, import infrastructure, among other things.

The survey can also have a look at other economic reforms that can have a great influence on the Budget.

When will the Economic Survey be presented?

FM Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey in the Lok Sabha first, at around 1 pm on Friday, Jan 31.

Subsequently, she will table the financial document in the Rajya Sabha.

Since FM Sitharaman will be presenting the Economic Survey in the Parliament, the proceedings can be watched live on Sansad TV.
