As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget in the Parliament on Saturday, here are some of the main schemes announced in the Budget.

National Manufacturing Mission

The National Manufacturing Mission is expected to help small, medium and large industries grow under the 'Make in India' initiative. "A Nuclear Energy Mission for research and development of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) with an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore will be set up. At least five indigenously developed SMRs will be operationalised by 2033," Nirmala said while announcing the scheme.

Makhana Board

For Bihar's makhana sector, a dedicated Makhana Board will be established to improve production, processing, and marketing. The board would organise farmers into FPOs and provide training support while ensuring access to government scheme benefits.

Research ecosystem mission

A new research ecosystem mission would focus on developing and propagating high-yield, pest-resistant, and climate-resilient seeds, with plans to commercially release more than 100 seed varieties introduced since July 2024.

 Five-year cotton mission

Additionally, a five-year cotton mission would work on improving productivity and promoting extra-long staple cotton varieties, supporting India's integrated 5F vision for the textile sector.

Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

Presenting her eighth Budget speech in Parliament, Nirmala positioned agriculture as "the first engine of growth" and unveiled the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, a flagship program targeting 100 agri-districts grappling with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and below-average credit parameters.

SWAMIH Fund 2

A fund of Rs 15,000 cr aimed at expeditious completion of another 1 lakh dwelling units, with contributions from the government, banks and private investors has also been announced in the Special Window for Affordable and Mid-Income Housing (SWAMIH Fund 2) scheme.

Rural Prosperity and Resilience programme

To address rural unemployment, the government will be implementing a comprehensive 'Rural Prosperity and Resilience' programme.

'Fund of Funds' for start-ups

Startups have a reason to cheer as a new 'Fund of Funds' with expanded scope and a fresh contribution of additional Rs 10,000 crore will be set up.

Asset Monetisation Plan

An Asset monetisation plan 2025-30 will be launched to infuse Rs 10 lakh crore capital in new projects.

BTN Scheme 

BharatTradeNet' (BTN) for international trade to be set up as a unified platform for trade documentation and financing solution.

Sustainable toys

A scheme to create high-quality, unique, innovative, and sustainable toys, making India a global hub for toys has also been announced.

Scheme for SC/ST entrepreneurs

New scheme for 5 lakh women, SC and ST first-time entrepreneurs to provide term-loans up to Rs 2 cr in the next 5 years has been announced.

'Rural Prosperity and Resilience' scheme

To address rural unemployment, the government will implement a comprehensive 'Rural Prosperity and Resilience' programme.

UDAN scheme modified

There is a a proposal to modify UDAN scheme to provide regional air connectivity to 120 new destinations. The move is expected to make air travel more accessible as well as help boost overall economic growth
