Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her record 10th Budget in Parliament on Sunday (February 1).
One of the key highlights of the Budget is the proposal to launch a Khelo India Mission which is expected to transform the sports sector.
"The sports sector provides multiple avenues for employment, skilling and job opportunities,” said Nirmala Sitharaman her Budget speech.
The proposed Khelo India Mission will include the systematic development of coaches and support staff, integration of sports science and technology, and promotion of competitions and leagues to build a strong sports culture, Sitharaman says.
She also flags the development of sports infrastructure for training and competition as a key pillar of the mission.
It may be recalled that The Khelo India programme was introduced in 2017 to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.
