Available in correspondence mode, the Diploma in Non-violence and Peace (DNP) is being offered by the International Gandhian Institute for Non-violence and Peace (IGINP) in Madurai. The course is supported by the National Council of Rural Institutes (NCRI).

“The idea is to promote holistic and dynamic practices of non-violence at the individual and community level. We want to create a trained cadre of visionaries, promoters, activists, educationists, trainers, researchers, builders and keepers of non-violence and peace, and to promote rural uplift, Gandhian lifestyle, satyagraha, peaceful resolution of conflicts and ethical values,” says Dr S Jeyapragasam, honorary director, IGINP.
The programme is formatted in 8 modules on topics like relief, rehabilitation and constructive work to build a peaceful world; land, livelihood and non-violent lifestyle; satyagraha; conflict resolution and so on.

Every student has to answer four question papers on each of the modules. While there is no final written examination, evaluation is done on the basis of the written answer papers, the journal that the student records with details of his/her practical and field activities, and a 50-page research report.

A three-day residential workshop at the institute’s premises in Madurai, is mandatory.

The course fee is Rs 1,250 for Indian participants and Rs 2,750 for international participants.
