Earlier that day, in Sinha’s constituency Lakhisarai , stones and slippers were supposedly thrown at his convoy, with crowds raising 'murdabad' slogans and blocking his vehicle.

The two leaders made headlines during the Bihar Assembly elections' first phase, as the Deputy CM alleged that RJD attacked his convoy with "slippers and cow dung".

They exchanged claims with each other in public view, reportedly outside a polling booth, where Ajay Kumar Singh called Sinha a "criminal" trying to “distribute money to influence voters,” and the Deputy CM that the RJD leader was “creating a ruckus under the influence of alcohol.”

Sinha can also be heard asking police officers to take the Ajay Kumar for a medical test, which would confirm that the he was under the influence of alcohol, suggesting he violated ban on sale and consumption of liquor in the Bihar.

In a video, it can be seen that Sinha said, "We were coming, and he parked his car in front of us, so we stopped. He's an RJD MLC (Ajay Kumar Singh). He's drunk. He reeks of alcohol. He's talking nonsense. He had gone to Nadiawan to capture a booth. When he heard we were coming, he ran away..."

"His people stopped our car and resorted to hooliganism. He is distraught because he has lost the election. Vijay Sinha's chapter is closed. He was not attacked. He had been trying to stage this drama for several days..." said Ajay Kumar Singh.

As the two leaders traded barbs, at 64.66 per cent, the Bihar phase one poll turnout was recorded as the highest-ever. The previous highest of 62.57 per cent was in 2000 for the entire Assembly polls. The lowest was in 1951-52 when 42.6 per cent was the turnout. For Lok Sabha polls, the highest was 64.6per cent in 1998 while the lowest was 40.35 per cent in 1951-52.
