The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is learnt to have deputed an observer in Thiruvananthapuram constituency after the Congress sitting MP Shashi Tharoor expressed concerns that many local leaders of the party were not active in the campaign for him.
AICC leader Nana Patole was deputed to oversee the campaign in Kerala capital, which is witnessing a strong triangular fight.
According to sources, Tharoor expressed his concern to AICC leadership that there were not enough party workers to campaign for him at many parts of Thiruvananthapuram. This was due to the lack of initiative of some party local leaders, including an MLA.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Mullapally Ramachandran told a section of media that he would be personally reviewing the campaign at Thiruvananthapuram as he was not fully satisfied at the campaign.
The BJP is pinning high hopes in Thiruvananthapuram and fielded party former state president Kummanam Rajasekharan to take on Tharoor. The left front candidate is C Divakaran, a senior CPI leader and sitting MLA.
Meanwhile, the Left-front alleged that the fresh row was a prelude to a vote-sharing adjustment between the Congress and the BJP.
