New Delhi: The new BJP government in Delhi will be sworn in only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from the United States later this week even as the party on Sunday made it clear that it is not going to let its guard down on AAP by announcing its intention to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption charges against them.
A day after election results, Chief Minister Atishi submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who has asked her to continue as caretaker till further arrangements are made.
Saxena has also announced the dissolution of the seventh Delhi Assembly, paving the way for the constitution of a new one.
There is no clarity on who will head the BJP government in Delhi where it returned to power after 27 years at this moment even as party president JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions during the day. Party sources said they are not in a hurry, as the decision will be taken by the central leadership after taking into consideration all aspects.
The date for swearing-in will be fixed only after Modi returns from his trip to France and the United States, which concludes on February 13. The Prime Minister will leave for France on Monday morning.
While the party is tightlipped about the schedule for swearing in, the names of senior leaders like Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta, Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay and Parvesh Verma are doing the rounds.
Delhi can have seven ministers, including Chief Minister, and the party is likely to look at caste combinations in choosing their representatives in the Cabinet. If the BJP chooses a woman, experienced councillors Rekha Gupta, who won from Shalimar Bagh by 29595 votes, or Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Rai would be selected.
While names for the Cabinet are being speculated, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the first Cabinet meeting of the BJP government would announce the formation of a SIT to probe corruption cases, as the party has "zero tolerance" towards graft. In the Assembly, the party would also table the CAG reports, which the AAP government has not placed before MLAs.
Sood, who won from Janakpuri by a margin of 18,766 votes, said the CAG report must come in the Assembly to expose the conspiracy the outgoing government had hatched to hide its corruption. "Now it is time to expose it.The Congress and AAP are together, they are A and B team."
BJP's winner from Moti Nagar, Harish Khurana said people have rejected Arvind Kejriwal and added, people of Delhi have expressed their trust in the saffron party.
