Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said that Election Commission's decision not to allow State governments to take administrative works is hindering drought relief work in Karnataka.

Speaking to media persons at Hubballi Airport here on Saturday, he said even on Friday the state government received a communication from EC asking the ministers not hold review meetings, including video conferences with the officials. The letter also asks officials not to attend the meetings called by ministers, he said.

"I don't understand why the EC has issued such harsh instructions. Since notification to the announcement of the results, the state governments are not allowed to take any decisions for two months. This has tied our hands." he said.

He asked the EC to relax the model code of conduct in states where elections are over.

Action against rebels

Parameshwara said action would be taken against rebel leaders who attended independent candidate Sumalatha's party after the Disciplinary Committee of KPCC conducts an enquiry. The rebel leaders have said that they participated in a birthday party of Sumalatha.
