The Election Commission has swung into action after it was brought to its notice that a fake news was being circulated in social media suggesting that the poll panel had already announced the schedule of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The EC, which is yet to announce the schedule of the LS polls, directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi to ask police to launch an investigation and take action against people responsible for spreading the fake news.

The Lok Sabha polls are likely to be held in April and May. The EC may announce the schedule of the polling in March.
