More trouble seems to be in store for former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar as the BJP has lodged a case against him for using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the complaint by state BJP minority cell vice president Titu Badwal, Kanhaiya has been charged with using derogatory words like "chor" (thief) and "baimaan" (dishonest) with respect to the prime minister while addressing a CPI meet in Kishanganj.
Badwal has submitted a CD with videos of the rally, which Kanhaiya addressed on March 4 at the Muslim-dominated area of Anjuman Islamia in Kishanganj, around 450 km from the state capital.
The case was registered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ajit Kumar Singh, where Kanhaiya has been booked under the Sections 153, 153 (A), 294, 295 (A), 504 and 506.
"We have submitted in the court the CD of Kanhaiya's speech, in which he used foul language against the prime minister and tried to disturb the harmony in the Muslim-dominated area," said Samir Dubey, the lawyer representing Badwal.
Kanhaiya, who earlier told DH that he would contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a CPI candidate from the Begusarai parliamentary constituency in Bihar, has been canvassing in his hometown for the last two months.
The Delhi Police had recently submitted a chargesheet against Kanhaiya, charging him with raising anti-India slogans on the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2016.
