Haveri: Ten ballot boxes were found in a stormwater drain at Yatnalli New Extension of Haveri city on Thursday.

The voting for bypoll to Shiggaon was held on Wednesday. Tahsildar Sharanamma, who visited the spot, said that ballot boxes were in no way connected with the bypoll voting.

“A total of 621 ballot boxes were used during the 2020 Grama Panchayat elections. After the conclusion of voting 41 were kept in the tahsildar’s office the remaining 580 were kept in APMC godown on Guttala Road. Thieves broke open the godown door and stole 10 ballot boxes. The same ballot boxes are thrown in the roadside canal,” the tahsildar said.

An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons.
