Police are looking out for a man who called the control room to report the killing of a peacock in North Bengaluru's Hesaraghatta on Sunday and blamed a student for it. Killing the national bird is punishable with up to seven years' imprisonment.
Shortly after the message came around 7.30 am, an assistant sub-inspector rushed to the student's house on Bilijaji Road and questioned him about the dead peacock. The student, identified as Kiran, admitted to being home all the time but said he had nothing to do with the bird's killing.
Police sent the carcass for post-mortem, and doctors confirmed the bird had died from blunt injuries, not cut or sharp wounds.
Police suspect the caller wanted to frame Kiran, a BCom student. They have identified him as Raju and traced his SIM card address to Kollegal, Chamarajanagar district.
His present location is Doddaballapur."We suspect the man killed the bird and dumped the carcass outside Kiran's house so as to land him in trouble," a senior police officer told DH.
