Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group on Sunday rebutted Congress President Rahul Gandhi's 'crony capitalist' charge contending that it had received contracts to the tune of Rs one lakh crore during the UPA rule.

“The Reliance Group takes this opportunity to request Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether his government, for 10 long years, was supporting an alleged crony capitalist and dishonest businessman, to use Gandhi's own words,” a statement issued by the Reliance Group said.

It said that the Congress President "has attributed no basis to these claims whatsoever, and neither has he provided any credible evidence at all to justify his derogatory and defamatory campaign."

“He has singled out our group chairman Anil D Ambani as allegedly a crony capitalist and dishonest businessman – all obviously patently untrue statements,” the statement said.

Rahul has been targeting Anil Ambani over the offsets in the contentious Rafale fighter jet deal accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of doling out favours to the industrialist at the cost of state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
