A minor clash between the supporters of coalition candidate K Nikhil and Independent candidate A Sumalatha, wife of late actor-politician Ambareesh, was reported at Doddarasinakere village, Maddur taluk on Thursday.

Nikhil came face-to-face with Sumalatha, when she was returning after casting her vote at Doddarasinakere. Nikhil was standing on the footboard of his car and waving to the voters. This was opposed by Sumalatha’s supporters, who claimed that he was on a public campaign, which is a violation of the model code of conduct. There was a heated exchange of words between the groups, that led to fisticuffs. However, police intervened and brought the situation under control.

JD(S) workers are said to have assaulted Sumalatha’s agent at Basavanapura village in Malavalli taluk, when he opposed a JD(S) worker accompanying an old man to help him cast his vote.
