A few youths from Ashokapuram in the city have produced a Kannada documentary film to create awareness on voting and its importance.

The 36-minute documentary also highlights how political parties lure the voters and its effects on the people.

Members of Ashokapuram Geleyara Balaga --- P Rohith, Rakesh, Jayshankar Shyam, M Hemanth Kumar, Lokesh, Ravindra and others --- have come up with ‘Mathastra', with the tagline 'Vote is not for sale’. The film will be released on Saturday near Dr Ambedkar Park at Ashokapuram at 6 pm.

The members said the luring of voters has become common in recent years and the parties or candidates target the poor, illiterate and deprived classes.

“We want to create awareness among the people not to sell their votes and spread the message of its effect on them. The Election Commission aims to conduct free and fair elections and the film is a small contribution from our side to create awareness among the voters,” the members said.

Local youths have played all the characters in the film. It has been shot at Varuna village, Ashokapuram and parts of Mysuru city.
