Liam Neeson may be 60-plus. But trust the old war horse to give a power-packed performance. As retired mafia hitman Jimmy Conlon, he packs a punch.

In a role that fits to a T, Neeson lives it to the hilt in Run All Night — as the droopy eyed, drunk, family protector. Somewhat redux of Taken, Run All Night sees Neeson playing Jimmy Conlon, with no love lost for his estranged son Mike, but finds himself having to save the motherless son and his family from a blood-thirsty Shawn Maguire who swears vengeance.

Trying to rescue Mike, Jimmy unwittingly kills his former boss’ son Danny. Thereon, it’s a fast and furious play of wit, as rancour gets better of reason and Shawn swears: I am coming after your boy. I want this done and it will be done. With his plea: I am here asking for my son’s life going in vain, Jimmy dodges Shawn and his goons from gunning down “the most wanted man in NY City” as he tells son Mike.

New York comes alive in its vibrant vicissitudes as formidable foes play cat and mouse in this 16-hour end-game through night, thanks to cinematographer Martin Ruhe whose shots provide a surreal feel to the redemption drama. Despite its familiar drivel and drill, Run All Night will wow Liam Neeson fans. He shows he has much chutzpah despite his age.
