The simultaneous release of dubbed Kannada version of other language movies is still a distant dream.

Amid the row, Kollywood star Ajith Kumar’s ‘Viswasam’, set to hit the screens on January 10 across the globe, is now being dubbed into Kannada and will be titled ‘Vishwasa’.

“The dubbing is in progress. We were planning for simultaneous release, but, it was not possible. Now the Telugu and Kannada version of Vishwasam will be simultaneously released as both are getting ready. We need to still get censor clearance, after that we will be announcing the release date,” Tony, owner of Horizon Studio, which has acquired the distribution rights of ‘Vishwasam’ in Karnataka, told DH.

Despite the huge protest, director Gautham Menon’s ‘Yennai Arindhal’ became the first ever Kannada dubbed movie to make it to the silver screen as ‘Sathya Dev IPS’.

Later, ‘Vivegam’, directed by Siruthai Siva, was released in Kannada as ‘Commando’. After seeing the huge response for Ajith’s movies in Kannada, the makers of ‘Arrambam’, which was released in 2013’, was dubbed into Kannada as ‘Dheera’.

‘Viswasam’ is Ajith’s fourth movie to be dubbed in Kannada.

On the market for dubbed movies in Kannada, Tony said, “‘Commando’ was a success. This (Vishwasa) will be better. The market for dubbed films are opening up and ‘Vishwasa’ will prove the point. I would say this will open space for dubbing movies in Kannada hereafter.”

Tamil audiences are witnessing the biggest Box Office clash as Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Petta’ and Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’ are in for the Pongal race.

If ‘Petta’ is being released in more than 300 screens across the state, ‘Viswasam’ is getting released in more than 110 screens.
