The Bhatts always keep a certain standard. And that saves Jashnn. The honest portrayal of a brother-sister bond keeps the movie afloat even as the parallel love story gets washed away in tears.

Adhyayan finally arrives. As the passionate and vulnerable boy-band member, he gets a solid platform to perform. He sings at cemeteries, drops his jaws to questionable depths at the sight of Anjana, and then cries and cares for his model sister (Goswami, wow is the word) who has been reduced to the mistress of a tycoon.

Though touted as a musical story, Jashnn is an emotional volcano (typically Bhatt) which erupts at irregular intervals. So the career struggles of aspiring singer Adhyayan don’t make much sense. He always whines at remaining a “nobody”, but his tumultuous ties with his sister grip the viewer. And atta girl Goswami outshines others with her natural act. A real talent after a long time. Anjana, the US-returned high-maintenance girlfriend of Adhyayan Suman, makes a confident entry, but is soon relegated to the kitchen as Jashnn takes the reality route. Humayun Saeed (from across the border) gives a convincing performance as the heroine’s villain bhai.

The singing-contest climax is dumb, but the terrific music (Toshi-Sharib) spares Suman the blushes. No great cinema, but good acting and good music make for an okay watch.
