A Marathi short film 'Matitali Kusti' by 24-year-old city resident Prantik Deshmukh has been nominated for the Filmfare Awards 2017 under the non-fiction category.

The 12-minute film showcases struggle of traditional wrestlers and their battle against freestyle wrestling to keep alive the ancient sport of the country.

It is the only Marathi film in the category.

Prantik, a post-graduate in mass media and communication from the Savitribai Phule Pune University, has directed the film. The movie is produced by University.

The Filmfare Awards would be held in Mumbai next month. The jury panel consists of Vidya Balan, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Gauri Shinde, Kabir Khan and Meghna Gulzar.
