Taking the title from a 1984 Rajnikanth starrer, director Suseendhiran seeks to draw crowds by droves. Sadly, the ploy does not pay off. For, if Rajnikanth was a superstar to ensure box office success, Karthik, despite riding on hits like “Paruthiveeran”, “Aayirathil Oruvan” and “Paiyya”, is no Rajnikanth. Besides, the story and script do not pass muster to ensure that “Naan Mahaan Alla” makes the grade.

Belying Suseendhiran’s tall claims of novelty for viewers, “Naan...” woefully turns out to be trite and tiresome. Reminiscient of his previous outings, it’s deja vu as “Naan...” treads the familiar trail of a happy-go-lucky beau leading a blissful life with the girl of his dreams.

He is drawn into taking vengeance when his father, with whom he enjoys a love-hate relationship, is brutally murdered. While Karthik tries to live up to his billing, Kajal is just oomph. Suseendhiran who showed promise with “Vennila Kabadi Kulu”, makes a shoddy job of “Naan...”.  With nothing working for it, including Yuvan Shankar Raja’s score, “Naan...” is best left to its fate.
