‘Seetharamu’ gave ‘namma’ Shankar Nag his big break, opposite the ‘patakha’ Manjula. The story of Manjula avenging Shankar’s death was ‘jhakaas’ stuff.

Obavva (Ayesha) dons the role of avenger. Any resemblance to the legendary warrior of Chitradurga is inappropriate, though the director gets the lithe lass to dress up and put the ‘onake’ (pestle) to good use.

Dialogues by B A Madhu are bang-on while Rajesh Ramnath’s music does the job. As the onus is on the heroine and action, neither melody nor the hero, Deepak, has much to do. Still, it is a pleasure to watch him bash up Petrol Prasanna and other goondas.

Raju has neglected the other elements: sentiment, romance and even comedy. Still, movie-goers have little to complain after seeing those flying kicks, crescent kicks, jumps, punches, and the climax. This ‘Obavva’ doesn’t disappoint the front-benchers.
