New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched the movie The Sabarmati Report at the Balayogi Auditorium at the Parliament Complex in a screening organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Several NDA leaders as well as the makers of the film were present at the special screening. 

The film is based on the burning of two coaches of the Sabarmati Express killing kar sevaks travelling in them, leading to the Godhra riots of 2002. PM Modi was the chief minister of the state then.

The riots had led to years of criticism against Modi and union home minister Amit Shah, who was the home minister in the state then. 

“Joined fellow NDA MPs at a screening of ‘The Sabarmati Report’. I commend the makers of the film for their effort,” PM Modi posted on X after the screening.

BJP President JP Nadda, union defence minister Rajnath Singh, union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari, union labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and union urban development minister ML Khattar were present from the BJP, besides Shah. 

Hindustani Awam Morcha chief and union MSME minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, JDU leader and union animal husbandry minister Lalan Singh and union Skill Development minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary were present, too. 

The movie is directed by Dheeraj Sarna, and stars Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna. It is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Vikir Films Production.

Several BJP-ruled states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Goa have declared the film tax free.
