Actress Karisma Kapoor’s personal life is no short of a Bollywood movie, from fame and money to feuds and betrayal, her personal life has seen everything. The diva, who was in her prime in the early 2000s, almost became the daughter-in-law of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. Her engagement to Abhishek Bachchan in 2002 was a high-profile affair, but it was soon broken off for undisclosed reasons.

Soon after the engagement was called off, there came a sudden news of her 2003 wedding to industrialist Sunjay Kapur. This news shocked many and came as a surprise to industry insiders. However, she planned to settle with Sunjay in Delhi, far away from the glitzy and glamorous Mumbai’s stardom. Karisma and Sunjay became parents to two children during their marriage. Their daughter, Samaira, was born in 2005, followed by their son, Kiaan, in 2011.

However, their relationship turned sour and hit a roadblock, and the couple legally separated in 2016. According to reports, Karisma Kapoor received a substantial settlement from her divorce from Sunjay Kapur. This reportedly included Rs 14 crore in alimony and a high-end property as part of the division of assets.

While she kept mum on her troubled marriage with Sunjay Kapur, her father, Randhir, openly expressed his dissatisfaction with her marriage to Sunjay Kapur.

In a 2016 interview with Hindustan Times, he strongly criticised Sunjay, saying, “Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to chase anyone’s money. We are blessed not only with wealth, but with talent that can sustain us for a lifetime.”

Further expressing his disapproval, Randhir Kapoor said that he had opposed the relationship from the beginning. “I never wanted Karisma to marry him,” he said. “He never cared for her. He’s been dishonest with her and involved with another woman. Everyone in Delhi knows his reputation. I have nothing more to add.”

After the divorce, Karisma Kapoor focused entirely on raising her children and gradually returned to acting, taking on a few projects over time. On the other hand, Sunjay Kapur tied the knot with Priya Sachdev and became a father again with the birth of their son Azarius in 2018.

At 53, Sunjay Kapur died unexpectedly while in the UK. He was playing polo, a sport he deeply loved, when a sudden heart attack struck him.
