With only three days remaining, the uncertainty around the release of Jana Nayagan continues to leave both the makers and fans feeling frustrated and disheartened. Built on an enormous budget of Rs 400 crore, Thalapathy Vijay’s latest film is under tremendous pressure.
While the makers are leaving no stone unturned to obtain the certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), some say that this delay is intentional to tarnish Vijay’s image, who is bidding farewell to Indian cinema.
Despite filing for certification on December 19, the makers were met with an unexpectedly cold response from the authorities. Consequently, insiders report that the filmmakers are now considering legal options to address the ongoing delay.
Meanwhile, KVN Productions is relying on a pre-January 9 certification to keep its release schedule intact, though fans remain on edge until the official announcement is made. Despite the uncertainty, Vijay’s supporters are moving forward with grand plans to commemorate his final cinematic outing. From local festivities to international gatherings, an array of activities has been planned across the globe to bid a legendary farewell to their favourite star.
Vijay is no stranger to release-day controversies. Approx. half a dozen of his films have faced similar setbacks to stall his rising stature. These recurring challenges highlight the friction surrounding his immense popularity and his undisputed position as a powerhouse of the Tamil film industry.
Parallel to this, Siva Karthikeyan’s Parashakti also faced a certification bottleneck, only managing to secure a U/A rating last evening just in time for its January 10 launch.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Joseph Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamita Baiju and others. Backed by Venkat K Narayana under the banner KVN Productions, the movie is set to release on January 9, 2026.
