At the Google Cloud Next 2025 event in Las Vegas, the search engine giant announced a partnership with Manipal Hospitals to deliver Artificial Intelligence (AI)- powered digital healthcare services in India.

Manipal Hospitals is using Google Cloud’s cutting-edge technology to power its ePharmacy platform and AI-driven nurse handoff solution. Thanks to the collaboration, the ePharmacy order processing time, which usually takes around 15 minutes, can be reduced to less than five minutes, and nurse handover durations can be cut from 90 minutes to just 20 minutes.

For the uninitiated, 'nurse handover' is a process of transferring information and responsibility of a patient from one nurse to another, ensuring continuity and safety of care.

“Google Cloud has been instrumental in helping us unlock high levels of scalability, performance, and security that are crucial for our operations. Without the burden of infrastructure management, our teams have been able to dedicate their time and expertise to solving critical business problems,” said Karthik Rajagopal, Group Chief Operating Officer at Manipal Hospitals.

Manipal Hospitals' ePharmacy platform now runs on Gemini on Vertex AI model to offer precise drug information and seamless prescription processing.

Previously, this job was done manually, and there was a chance of transcription errors while transferring data from the pharmacy department to the diagnostic department. With Google Gen AI assistantance, it significantly minimises the risk of errors.

Further, Manipal is using Google Cloud’s Cloud Healthcare API and Apigee API Management to help connect disparate systems, ensuring that data from ePharmacy transactions is error-free and instantly provided to patients post-consultation.

Manipal Hospitals' ePharmacy platform is being used by more than 100,000 patients for both short and long-term medication needs.

And now, with Google Cloud-connected Gen AI assistance, the doctors can gain valuable insights into the patient's health and medical care. This can help the doctors in prescribe correct medicine to the patient and co-ordinate with pharmacists for stocking of that particular medicines.
