At least 10 people lost their lives and several villages were flooded as rains continue to pound Nashik and adjoining Aurangabad, Ahmednagar and Pune.
Reports from Nashik district said at least 11 persons died in rain-related incidents as major dams including Gangapur overflowed.
The Nashik district administration evacuated hundreds of families since Monday from the banks of the Godavari river and Niphad taluka. The Godavari river continues to flow in full force. Meanwhile, water has reduced at Ramkund, one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites. District Collector B Radhakrishanan and Commissioner of Police S Jagannathan were monitoring the situation.
A report from Pune said the Mutha river swelled as water was released from the Khadakwasla dam, the main source of drinking water in the Pune city. Several vehicles could be seen submerged in water. In Aurangabad district, Vaijapur received heavy rainfall and there was flooding in several places. "Twelve villages have been affected," said Collector Nidhi Pandey.
There were also reports of more than 200 people stranded in a village, where rescue teams are reaching.
There was a landslide in Malshej Ghat that connects Mumbai to Ahmednagar and Pune due to heavy rains. No casualties have been reported.
