Twelve people were killed during the Ganesh idol immersion festivities on Sunday across Maharashtra.

However, in Mumbai's Girgaum Chowpatty, five people were saved from drowning after the boat in which they were sailing during immersion tilted.

They were rescued by personnel of the Mumbai Fire Brigade and sent to the Nair Hospital.

According to reports, in Raigad and Jalna, six people drowned, while four people drowned in Satara and Bhandara districts.

One person died in Pipri-Chinchwad while another died in Bhandup in Mumbai.
