12 pilgrims bound for Tirumala die in crash

Twelve people, including five women and an infant, were killed and six others injured when their vehicle was hit by a speeding lorry in the YSR Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday morning.

According to Rajampet police, victims belonged to Nanded district in Maharashtra and were on their way to Tirumala when a coal-laden lorry coming in the opposite direction collided with their four-wheeler between Rajampet and Nandularu.

Kadapa District Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha told reporters that more than 18 peple were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle at the time of accident.

The deceased have been identified as Maruthi (26), Anand (30), Nagendra (40), Venkat (30), Ramesh (28), Govind (60), Anusha (11), Jijiyabai (55) Janabai (30), Yeshoda (25), Nagabai (50), and an 11-month old girl.

 Andhra Pradesh Chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy has directed the district administration to make all necessary arrangements.
