Police lathicharge ABVP activists who were protesting outside the Bihar Assembly against the opening of a branch of Aligarh Muslim University in the state's Kishanganj district, in Patna on Monday. PTI
Hundreds of ABVP activists assembled near the secretariat police station and tried to break the iron fence to march towards the assembly, police said.
They turned violent when they were disallowed and indulged in stone pelting. As the situation went out of control and some policemen were injured, police lathicharged to disperse them.
Later, more than 25 ABVP men were taken into custody.
The incident was raked up by several BJP members in the state legislative council and the chairman of the House Tarakant Jha asked the deputy leader of the House Ganga Prasad to discuss with the state government for a solution.
