Two police officials attached to the Punjab police were held at Kochi on Tuesday, in connection with the misappropriation of about Rs 6.65 crore. Joginder Singh and Rajpreeet Singh, natives of Patiala in Punjab, were held.

The money in question was seized from a close aide of Franco Mulakkal, the rape-accused former bishop of Jalandhar. The two officials allegedly syphoned off the money from Father Antony Madassery in Punjab last month.

The Enforcement Directorate officials, along with police seized the money from the priest.

Father Madasserry alleged that Rs 16.65 crore was actually recovered from him, while the police reported that only Rs. 9.67 core was seized.

Madasserry also maintained that the money was meant for a firm in which he had a partnership.

A police team from Punjab would be coming down to take custody of the two officials accused of misappropriating the funds.
