As another outbreak of swine flu revisits Tamil Nadu for the first time this year, the state Health Minister V S Vijay on Saturday confirmed 29 cases of persons testing positive to the H1N1 virus so far across the state, but added there was no need to panic.
In Chennai alone 10 cases have been reported so far which also include three kids. The cases have been mainly reported from the districts of Chennai, Coimbatore and Tiruppur, the health minister said after a review of the state health machinery’s preparedness to deal with the infection, adding, enough Tamiflu tablets were in stock throughout Tamil Nadu.
Vijay, accompanied by the state Health Secretary, Girija Vaidyanathan, said that already over 25,000 vaccines to avert swine flu were dispatched to the district headquarters hospitals throughout the state.
Rs 55 lakh has also been earmarked for drugs and vaccines to tackle the flu attack and funds were no constraint, he added. In this latest bout, the Influenza virus had claimed its first victim in the state a few days ago when a 70-plus farmer succumbed to the infection in Tirupur district. He was initially admitted to a hospital with respiratory infection.
