The Rawalpindi-based anti-terrorism court of Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan acquitted seven others accused in the same case for lack of evidence.

The court also imposed fines of Rs 2 lakh on the six men — Zafar Mehmood, Muhammad Ishaq, Abid Khan, Muhammad Kabir, Intikhab Abbasi and Qamar-uz-Zaman — who were awarded life terms.

The 13 accused were arrested in the Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi in 2008. Police seized three vehicles packed with over 1,000 kg of explosives from their possession.

Investigators had alleged that the arrested planned to use the explosives-laden vehicles to mount a suicide attack on Musharraf’s motorcade.
